How to Play Arcade Mogul

Everything a new mogul needs — controls, shortcuts, machines, staff, money and the tricks to keep the quarters rolling. No spoilers, just the good stuff.

🎯The Goal

You start with an empty room and a little cash. Fill it with games, snacks and attractions; guests wander in and pay to play; you spend the profits on more and better stuff. Do it well and your reputation climbs, unlocking flashier machines and letting you expand up to eight floors.

There's no way to "lose" — this is a cozy builder. Chase the objectives, hunt the achievements, and above all, build the arcade you want to hang out in.

🎮Controls & Shortcuts

Play with a mouse, a trackpad or touch — whatever you've got. The keyboard shortcuts below are the fast lane.

Keyboard shortcuts

RRotate. Spins the piece you're placing or moving — or the machine you have selected. Guests approach from the front, so point the glowing arrow at open floor.
MMove. Picks up the selected item so you can re-place it. Always free.
SSell. Sells the selected item back for some cash. Great for clearing out under-performers.
EscCancel / close. Drops what you're placing and closes open panels.
F11Fullscreen. Toggle the big-screen arcade experience.

Heads up: M and S only work while a machine is selected (its info panel is open on the left). Tap any placed item to select it.

Mouse & touch

  • Drag the floor to pan the camera around.
  • Scroll wheel or pinch to zoom in and out.
  • Click / tap a shop card to pick it up, then click/tap a tile to place it.
  • Click / tap a placed machine to select it and open its info panel.
  • Right-click keeps placing more of the same item without re-picking it.

📊Reading the HUD

The top bar is your dashboard. From left to right:

  • 💵 Bank — cash on hand. Everything you buy comes out of here.
  • 🧍 Guests — how many people are in your arcade right now. More machines & higher reputation = bigger crowds.
  • ⭐ Reputation — your arcade's fame. It rises as guests enjoy themselves and unlocks new machines.
  • 📅 Date — the in-game calendar. Time flows on its own; each new day your running costs are paid automatically.

You'll also find quick panels for your current Objectives, any live Event, and your Next Unlock, plus a ⚙️ Settings button (rename your arcade, sound, fullscreen) and a speed control.

⏩ SPEED CONTROL

Switch between any time. Run at 2× or 3× when you're just watching the money grow, and drop back to when you're carefully laying out a new floor.

🏗️Building Your Arcade

The Build menu along the bottom is where it all starts. Cards are sorted into categories — scroll the row or use the tabs:

🕹️ Arcade🎯 Pinball🎁 Prize🏀 Sports 🎪 Carnival🎠 Rides🎢 Attractions🍔 Food

The bottom bar also has tabs for Staff, Decor (flooring, walls & objects) and Upgrades.

Placing a piece

  • Click a card, then click a tile to drop it. Green means it fits; red means the space is blocked.
  • Press R before you place to spin it. The front (the glowing arrow) is where guests line up — keep it facing open floor, not a wall.
  • Bigger attractions take up more tiles, so leave room. You can always Move things later for free.

🕹️Machines 101

Select any machine to open its info panel. Here's what the numbers mean and what you can do:

  • Revenue / play — how much a guest pays each time they use it.
  • Times played & Earned — lifetime popularity and total money made.
  • Profit — earnings minus what you've spent on it. If it's red for a long time, it's a dud.
  • lvl + (Upgrade) — pay to level it up: bigger payouts, more appeal, and it's fully serviced again.
  • Move (free) & Sell — same as the M and S shortcuts.

Wear & tear

Machines slowly wear down with use and can eventually break — a broken machine earns nothing until it's fixed. Repair it from its panel, or (better) hire a Technician who walks over and fixes breakdowns automatically. Leveling a machine up also restores it to perfect condition.

🧍Guests

Your little visitors have minds of their own. They wander the floor, find a game they like, pay to play, and move on. Keep them happy and they'll stay longer and spend more.

  • Give them variety — different guests love different things. A mix of games, prizes and rides pulls a wider crowd.
  • Feed them — hungry guests leave. Food & drink stalls (Pizzeria, Soda Machine, Boba, Ice Cream and more) keep them on the floor and spending.
  • Tickets & prizes — redemption machines pay out tickets; a Prize/Redeem counter lets guests cash them in.
  • Memberships — a Membership Desk turns regulars into bronze, silver & gold members for steady recurring income.
  • Reviews — guests rate your arcade as they play, which feeds your reputation.

🧑‍🔧Hiring Staff

Open the Staff tab to hire your crew. Each costs a one-time hire fee plus a small daily wage. Roaming staff (mascots & vendors) also earn a little as they go.

🧑‍💼Manager
$6,000 · $100/day
Monthly insights & recommendations. Only one per arcade.
🔧Technician
$2,000 · $60/day
Walks over and repairs broken machines. Hire more for a big floor.
🧹Janitor
$1,200 · $30/day
Empties trash and sweeps litter. A mess turns guests off.
Mascot
$2,500 · $50/day
Roams the floor waving and cheering — boosts fun & reputation.
🤡Balloon Clown
$2,200 · $50/day
Sells balloons to kids — a little cash and a big vibe boost.
🐝Antenna Bee
$2,400 · $50/day
Sells light-up antennas — flashing fun that lifts mood & rep.
🧚Wand Fairy
$2,600 · $60/day
Sells glowing wands to everyone — sparkly mood & rep boost.

…plus the 🧙 Glow Wizard ($2,800 · $60/day), who sells flashing neon necklaces for even more magical bling.

💵Money & Costs

Simple rule: keep more coming in than going out.

▲ Money in
Game plays · food & drink sales · memberships · prize-ticket redemption · event & objective rewards · selling machines you no longer want.
▼ Money out
Buying, upgrading & repairing machines · staff wages (paid daily) · day-to-day running costs (utilities & taxes) · prize payouts.

Every machine tracks its own profit, so you can always see what's carrying the arcade and what's dead weight. Reinvest steadily — the game rewards patient compounding more than one big splurge.

Reputation & Unlocks

Reputation is the heart of your progression. It rises whenever guests have a good time — playing great machines, enjoying a clean, well-decorated floor, and meeting your mascots.

  • Higher reputation → bigger crowds. More guests means more quarters.
  • Locked cards in the Build menu show a ⭐ requirement. Hit that number and they unlock — the fancier, higher-earning machines are gated behind rep.
  • Keep an eye on the Next Unlock panel to see what's coming.

🏢Floors & Expansion

Outgrown your room? You've got options, found under the Upgrades tab:

  • Expand Floor — push out the walls to add more tiles to the current floor.
  • Build New Floor — add a whole new floor above. You can stack up to eight (basement through floor 7).
  • Elevator — required so guests can actually ride between floors.
  • Basement Lounge — dig out a chill space below ground.

Use the floor selector (B · G · 1–7) to hop between levels, and Reno mode to repaint and re-theme. Every floor can have its own vibe — a neon arcade, a carnival, a sports hall, a food court. Decor (custom flooring, walls, neon signs, plants) isn't just for looks: a stylish arcade earns extra reputation.

🎉Events & Upgrades

Live events

Now and then the arcade throws an event — a VIP Night brings big spenders, a Milestone Celebration packs the house with a party. They give temporary boosts like +crowds or +spending for a short window, so it pays to have lots of machines running when one hits.

Permanent upgrades

📣Marketing Push
+7% guest traffic per level.
⚙️Premium Hardware
+10% revenue from everything per level.
🛋️Comfort & Vibes
+12% guest spending per level.
⏱️Event Extension
Every event lasts a few seconds longer per level.

🏆Objectives & Trophies

Objectives give you a running to-do list — reach a cash target, own a certain number of attractions, hit a reputation milestone — with rewards for ticking them off. They're a great compass when you're not sure what to build next.

On top of that there are 15 Steam achievements to chase, from earning your First Buck all the way to a cool $100,000,000, plus milestones for opening up, packing the crowd, staffing up and building new floors.

💡Pro Tips for a Great Run

  • Aim the front at open floor. A machine whose glowing arrow faces a wall can't be played. When in doubt, Rotate.
  • Start cheap, reinvest. A few Retro Cabinets fund your first real attractions. Compounding beats splurging.
  • Hire a Janitor early. Litter tanks your vibe fast — it's the cheapest happiness you can buy.
  • Get a Technician once you've got a full floor. Broken machines earn $0; a tech keeps the money flowing.
  • Feed the crowd. One food stall near the busy area keeps hungry guests from wandering out.
  • Level up your winners. Upgrading your best earners (lvl +) is often better value than buying another so-so machine.
  • Cut dead weight. If a machine's profit stays red, Sell it and try something new.
  • Decorate for rep. A themed, tidy floor literally raises reputation — and unlocks the good stuff faster.
  • Ride the events. Have plenty running before a VIP Night and watch the profits spike.
★ THE ONE RULE

There's no timer and no game over. Experiment, rearrange, and build the arcade that makes you smile. That's the whole point of being a mogul.
